Westwood House

Location

Westwood House is located on Edinburgh Road, off Earlham Road, behind St Thomas' Parish Church. Buses run frequently along Earlham Road. Alternatively, a one mile walk takes you along Earlham Road, past the Catholic Cathedral, over a bridge and into the city.

The accommodation

There are 20 one-bedroom flats in a former vicarage and in a modern purpose-built block. The Society bought the redundant vicarage in approx. 1976. There are delightful, well-maintained gardens surrounding the whole scheme.

Support facilities

The Society’s Scheme Managers provide a visiting support service to tenants that request a visit. Westwood House has a resident Scheme Manager. Each flat is connected to the call system by means of pull cords in each of the main rooms. Pendants are available for those wishing for a higher degree of reassurance. The call system is monitored 24/7, and a mobile response is provided when necessary.

Medical facilities

The nearest health centre is less than half a mile away, together with a pharmacy. Opticians and dentists are situated within the city centre.

Shops, restaurants

There is a neighbourhood shopping centre about 200 yards away across Earlham Road. This has a Co-op supermarket, greengrocer, butcher, post office, and various other outlets. There are cafes and pubs on Earlham Road. Cinemas are to be found within the city centre. Some interesting shops, cafes, delicatessen and restaurants are situated just over the bridge towards the city centre and Norwich Market is not too far away.

Churches

Westwood House is located adjacent to St Thomas' Church, and the Catholic Cathedral is within walking distance along Earlham Road together with a synagogue and a United Reform Church. Other faiths are catered for within the city centre.

Facilities within the site

There is a social room within the main building for the use of tenants. The scheme has delightful, well-maintained gardens. There is also a guest room fitted with a small en-suite shower room for the use of friends and relatives of tenants for a small charge. A laundry room is available containing good quality domestic washing. Outside, there are two parking areas for tenants and visitors, on a first-come, first-served basis.
