About Eleanor Road

Location

The Eleanor Road scheme is situated in a popular residential district close to the city’s main shopping area.

The accommodation

The scheme comprises five detached buildings, each individually named - Townshend Court, Fielding Court, Brown's Court, Dawson Court and St Alban's Court - known collectively as the Eleanor Road Scheme. There are 29 one-bedroom flats and ten two-bedroom flats. Two bedroom flats are generally reserved for couples who request them, but may in certain circumstances be offered to individuals at the Society’s discretion. The buildings were constructed between about 1934 and 1993; the older units have been updated in recent years. All have double glazed windows and individual gas fired radiator central heating. Well-maintained gardens surround all five blocks.

Support facilities

The Society’s Scheme Managers provide a visiting support service to tenants that request a visit. Each flat is connected to the call system by means of pull cords in each of the main rooms. Pendants are available for those wishing for a higher degree of reassurance. The call system is monitored 24/7, and a mobile response is provided when necessary.

Medical facilities

The nearest health centre is about half a mile away, and the nearest pharmacy is within Sainsbury's supermarket at Brazen Gate, which is within walking distance for the active. There are dentists in the area, situated towards the city centre. Most pharmacies provide a 'collection and delivery' service for repeat prescriptions.

Shops, restaurants

Eleanor Road is located less than a mile from the heart of the city. There is a large Sainsbury's store within walking distance, and a range of neighbourhood shops close by including a Tesco Express, dry cleaners and butchers. There is a small but popular cafe and a popular pub within walking distance. There are regular buses on Trafford Road to the city centre, and the main city bus station is only half a mile away.

Churches

St Alban's Church, a large and well supported Church of England parish church is within walking distance, and the Roman Catholic Cathedral is a mile away. Other faiths are well catered for within the city.

Facilities within the site

The scheme has the benefit of a social room for the use of all the tenants and a variety of events are organised for and by the tenants. All tenants can enjoy the well-maintained gardens surrounding all five blocks; these are a particularly attractive feature of this scheme. There is a laundry room containing good quality domestic washing and drying machines. There are also some outside drying areas for the use of all tenants when the weather permits. Off-street parking is very limited, but tenants can apply to the city council for on-street permits both for their own vehicles and visitors.
