Fiddy's Yard

Location

Fiddy's Yard is located on Ber Street, virtually in the centre of the city, only a few hundred yards from the John Lewis department store. Other shops and businesses are an easy walk from the scheme, and the main bus station is just a few minutes’ walk away with links to all parts of the city and the surrounding area of Norfolk.

The accommodation

Fiddy's Yard is a modern scheme built around an old 19th century yard (from which the scheme takes its name). Sixteen one-bedroom flats and two two-bedroom flats are situated round a sheltered internal courtyard with secure gated access from the street. Two bedroom flats are generally reserved for couples who request them, but may in certain circumstances be offered to individuals at the Society’s discretion.

Support facilities

The Society’s Scheme Managers provide a visiting support service to tenants that request a visit. Each flat is connected to the call system by means of pull cords in each of the main rooms. Pendants are available for those wishing for a higher degree of reassurance. The call system is monitored 24/7, and a mobile response is provided when necessary.

Medical facilities

The nearest health centre is just over half a mile away, with the NHS walk-in centre on Rouen Road very close by. Pharmacies are situated in the city centre and within Sainsbury's. There are dentists nearby. Most pharmacies provide a 'collection and delivery' service for repeat prescriptions.

Shops, restaurants

There is a plentiful supply of supermarkets within walking distance of the site – a large Sainsbury’s as well as a Tesco Express, a Sainsbury’s Local and Marks & Spencer. There are pubs, cafes and takeaways situated along Ber Street, as well as a number of smaller specialist shops. A wide variety of shops are situated in the city centre. The nearest cinema complex is located in Castle Mall within easy walking distance, and the Theatre Royal is a short walk away.

Churches

All religious faiths are catered for within the city.

Facilities within the site

There is a social room for the use of tenants where social events can be arranged. A laundry room is available containing good quality domestic washing and drying machines. Tenants can enjoy the sunny courtyard for sitting out in the summer. There are no off-street parking facilities here due to the city centre location, but pay and display parking is available in Ber Street.
